P. Zaros, YSPB
YSPB’s Choir in the Glades is selected to receive funding in the Challenge America grant category from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
Young Singers of the Palm Beaches (YSPB) has been approved for a Challenge America award to support their satellite program “Choir in the Glades.”  YSPB’s Choir in the Glades brings choral programming to an under-served area of Palm Beach County and is offered free to all students.

YSPB’s Choir in the Glades is among 168 projects across America totaling $1,680,000 that were selected to receive fiscal year 2022 funding in the Challenge America grant category.

"The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support arts projects like this one from Young Singers of the Palm Beaches that help support the community’s creative economy,” said NEA Acting Chair Ann Eilers. “Young Singers is among the organizations nationwide that are using the arts as a source of strength, a path to well-being, and providing access and opportunity for people to connect and find joy through the arts.”

Young Singers of the Palm Beaches children’s community choir, comprised of young voices from public, private and home schools, began in 2003. Their Choir in the Glades program started in 2015. The tuition-free Belle Glade program is led by music professionals who provide quality choral instruction and enrichment during after school hours. Young Singers has a Glades area transport vehicle to pick singers up from school and transport them to their rehearsal site or to a performance venue.

Providing positive growth opportunities through song, supportive friendships and performance experience to children in the under-served region of the Glades is important for the children in that community. As YSPB’s mission explains, when children join together as part of the YSPB choir, they are building a strong foundation for their future by developing teamwork and leadership skills, forming cooperative and supportive friendships, and serving others in their community, in addition to expanding their music education.

Challenge America grants offer support primarily to small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to populations that have limited access to the arts due to geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. There are 168 organizations recommended in this funding category for a total of $1,680,000.
Each grant is for $10,000 and requires a minimum $10,000 cost share/match.

Please note, there may be a delay in the distribution of some grant awards as the NEA and all of the federal government are operating under a continuing budget resolution which currently expires on February 18, 2022.
