Choir in the Glades began in 2015 with an elementary school program serving grades 3-5. Our desire to bring music and choral programming to this under-served area of our county came to fruition and thrives thanks to the generosity of sponsors and grants.

Our choir program is offered free to all students, including their performance uniform. Programming is led by music professionals who provide quality choral instruction and enrichment during after school hours. Rehearsals are held weekly, culminating in multiple performance opportunities each year. Young Singers has a Glades area transport vehicle, allowing us to pick singers up from school and transport them to our rehearsal site or to a performance venue.

We currently bring singers together from five Belle Glade elementary schools: Belle Glade Elementary, Gladeview Elementary, Gove Elementary, Pioneer Park Elementary, Rosenwald Elementary, and include homeschooled students.

In 2017, we were able to expand this successful program into Lake Shore Middle School. Our choir there is called The Lake Shore Teen Singers.

Singers in our program learn:

  • Proper choral singing including vocal technique, posture, breathing, diction, vowel articulation
  • Music interpretation and music history
  • Rehearsal and performance techniques
  • Presentation and etiquette

Through music and through working with each other, our singers also learn:

  • Communication skills and how to work as a team
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Appreciation for other cultures
  • Self-esteem and pride in oneself and in the group
  • Good citizenship and the importance of giving back to the community
