Erica Barnes

Conductor

Erica Barnes conducts our youngest singers in grades 2 and 3 in the Da Capo choir, which, in music, means from the beginning. She also previously conducted the Encore Choir and co-conducted the Bel Canto choir. During the Young Singers’ 15th Anniversary season Mrs. Barnes had the honor of leading the YSPB Encore choir (comprised of auditioned 6-8 graders) in several community performances for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, The Hanley Center, Beau Biden Foundation, Children’s Home Society, Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce and the City of Palm Beach Gardens.

After graduating from Dreyfoos School of the Arts and Florida State University, Erica Barnes was the director of choral activities at Independence Middle School from 2002-2009 where she grew the brand new program from 90 to over 250 singers. After leaving the school district she taught private voice instruction, after school chorus at Beacon Cove Elementary, children’s music at Jupiter First Church, and was the summer music conservatory senior division choral director for First Presbyterian Church from 2009-2018. Mrs. Barnes was the teaching artist for the Young Singers’ 3-year grant project “Building Learning Communities through Arts and Culture.” She is a former student of Mrs. Drosakis and completed her college internship with Mr. Berry at Bak MSOA.

Mrs. Barnes is extremely proud of her daughter, Aubrey, who recently graduated from Dreyfoos School of the Arts and was a Young Singer for 6 years. She performed with YSPB in Palm Beach Opera’s productions of La Boheme, Carmen and Tosca. Mrs. Barnes is equally proud of her son, Danny, who is an incredible ice hockey goalie for the Palm Beach Hawks, and attends the Finance Academy at Dwyer High School. When not working with YSPB, Erica runs the family business with her amazingly supportive husband, Daniel. Their company, General Plumbing and Air Conditioning, has been a proud YSPB supporter and sponsor for the Mary Murray Scholarship 5K Race for several years.
