Terrion Nelson has been teaching music for 28 years in Palm Beach County. Presently, she is the music teacher at Egret Lake Elementary School in West Palm Beach Florida where she has taught for the last 22 years. Mrs. Nelson has served as team leader of the Fine Arts department, served on the school-based team, school climate committee and the School Advisory Council. As part of the fine arts team, she has collaborated with the Art teacher, P.E teacher, Media Specialist and the Guidance Counselor to create several school-wide inter-disciplinary units of study. The fine arts team has also written many grants to enhance the fine arts programs at Egret Lake. The grants include Sun-Fest Grant for a School -Wide Asian Arts Unit, Nike Jordan Fundamentals Grant, Citi-Bank Grant for an after-school art, music and communications program called EMAC (Egret Lake Music and Art) which helps prepare students for auditions at the Middle School of Arts. At the request of the principal, Mrs. Nelson and the art teacher wrote and received as one of three schools an Arts Integration Pilot Grant. Since that time she has served as co-chair of the art integration team for seven years.
Mrs. Nelson has been afforded the opportunity to present workshops on the local, state and national levels. She has presented at the district meeting for art and music teachers, the annual Palm Beach Count Teacher Guild Professional Development Day, the regional Professional Development meeting, FAEA, National Core Knowledge Conference, the National Arts Educators Conference and the National Professional Development Conference.
Musically speaking, Mrs. Nelson has been conductor and manager for a county-wide honors choir for Spotlight on Young Musicians and has been an adjudicator for BAK Middle School of the Arts auditions. She spends her summers teaching music and directing an annual extravaganza for the Inner-City Youth, Getting There, Inc. summer program. She has been recognized by The Raymond F. Kravis Center for her service as an exceptional educator and honored as Teacher of the month. Not only does she enjoy teaching students the beauty and joy of music in school and as a private vocal coach, but she is a well known Gospel recording artist who writes and performs and often sought after for many events and special occasions all over South Florida and beyond.
