CoronaVirus closings can't keep the Young Singers of the Palm Beaches down. All 320 singers have been getting back to work online in groups, led by their artistic director and founder Shawn Berry.
West Palm Beach (CBS12) —

The coronavirus outbreak has shut down virtually everything, from sports to restaurants to concerts. The Young Singers of the Palm Beaches were supposed to perform at the Kravis Center this May. That concert has now been postponed indefinietely. But the talented singers have already gotten to work on a virtual concert that everyone will be able to experience from home.

'Why We Sing' is the perfect song to explain why the young singers are heartbroken that their year end spring finale concert has been postponed. They're missing their fellow chorus members, and their chance to perform on the big stage.

"It was extremely heartbreaking to have everything shut down," says choir member Christipjer Mee.

"It's just heartbreaking because music is such a big part of my life," says another choir member Cerys Jette. "Without it it just seems kind of emptier."

But you can't keep the Young Singers of the Palm Beaches down. All 320 singers have been getting back to work online in groups, led by their artistic director and founder Shawn Berry.

"It's great to connect with them again," says Berry when he sees his students faces on his computer and starts to head them sing again. The ultimate goal is to replace that postponed concert with a finished virtual product.

"It's lifted my spirits to still share our gift with the world," says Jette. "I'm hoping we can make something cool happen."

"The most important thing is to actually watch them all together," says Berry. "People are singing. They're coming together. People are signing. It's an art form I don't think anything else can replicate."
