April showers bring May choirs: Young Singers of the Palm Beaches warm up their vocal chords for 'Singspiration' concert
Continuing the tradition, 350 young voices will entertain audiences of all ages at the annual spring concert ""Singspiration"" presented by the award-winning Young Singers of the Palm Beaches (YSPB). The concert will take place May 18 at 7 p.m. in Dreyfoos Hall at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.
Rehearsals occur weekly, including a combination of choir practice, choreography and training. Singers are divided into five different choirs based on grade level and skill, while educated and seasoned vocal instructors conduct each choir.
""I was so excited when I auditioned for and made it into YSPB,"" notes one 7th grade choir member. ""Being part of the choir is a lot of hard work, but also a lot of fun, and knowing that I get to perform in huge concerts makes me really proud of myself.""
The song program for the upcoming concert will include traditional choral pieces, feel-good favorites like ""Happy,"" songs from Broadway, a trip back to the '70s with selections from Earth, Wind & Fire and the Jackson 5, and more. The Men of Young Singers have a special treat prepared for Star Wars and sci-fi fans, and the youngest members of the choir will delight in a costumed, choreographed, Broadway-based number.
""Every concert is a new and exciting creation,"" noted Young Singers' executive director, Beth Clark. ""But this spring we are really bringing something for every taste and every age group to the stage. I know our concert will be talked about for weeks, and those who miss it will be sad they did.""
The more than 350 young singers performing in ""Singspiration"" come from all parts of the county's diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socio-economic communities. Each singer embraces the opportunity to learn and perform high caliber choral music in the professional setting of the Kravis Center. Presenting sponsor is PNC Bank.
